The NOAA RESTORE Science Program has partnered with researchers from Florida State University and the RESTORE Act Center of Excellence for Louisiana to propose a special collection on co-production and coastal resilience in the journal Estuaries and Coasts. We are excited to announce that the submission window for the collection is now open through August 31, 2025.
The vision for the special collection is to provide a space where researchers, practitioners, and other interested parties can share and learn from one another about co-production in the context of coastal resilience. Co-production of science emphasizes iterative collaborations between researchers, practitioners, and other interested parties to produce actionable science that directly informs decision-making and actions. We hope this collection will provide value to researchers looking to produce science that is more likely to be used by practitioners, individuals who regularly use science, community members whose input is necessary for co-production to be effective, and funding organizations who are prioritizing co-production and collaborative science projects. The rich landscape of knowledge and experiences around co-production in coastal resilience scenarios will be explored in this collection by featuring multidisciplinary perspectives and teams. We also commit to building upon the origins of the concept of co-production research in this collection. Acknowledging the history of co-production and the evolution of the concept will provide a foundation for the collection to build new ways of thinking and communicating co-production ideals, tools, and practices.
Every article that goes into the collection will need to be reviewed by the editorial team before submission to the journal for review. Therefore, if you are interested in submitting an article, please email it to Dr. Kassie Ernst (kernst@eng.famu.fsu.edu) with “Collection Submission” in the subject line. All article types are open for consideration, including original articles, management applications, brief reports, and more. Please refer to the paper types and other guidance on the website.
If you have colleagues who may be interested in submitting an article to the collection, please share this call with them.
